Mid-Florida CPR – AHA Instructor Classes

Obtaining your American Heart Association Instructor certification through one of our AHA Instructor Classes so you can begin teaching on your own is a 3-step process. You must complete the AHA Online Instructor Essentials portion, an in-person class portion, and then complete a monitoring session.

You must have a current (not expired) AHA certification in the discipline you wish to be certified in as an instructor. You should locate your certification before contacting us as you will be required to email us a copy for verification prior to registering for any of our AHA Instructor Classes. Additionally, you are required to obtain and purchase the AHA Provider and Instructor Manuals (here). You must have these manuals during the in-person instructor course and you will need them to complete the online AHA Instructor Essentials Online course.

Step 1 is to complete the online portion of the Instructor course you wish to be certified to teach here: https://elearning.heart.org/. The cost of the online portion is NOT included in our course cost – you must complete this prior to registering for one of our AHA Instructor Classes. You will be required to email us a copy of your completion certificate in order to register for the instructor course.

To register for the in-person portion of any of our AHA Instructor Classes, you should email the following two documents:  (1) your current AHA BLS Provider certification and (2) your AHA BLS Instructor Essential Completion Certificate to MIDFLCPR@GMAIL.COM. After emailing your documents, you should then complete the Registration Form at the bottom of this page. Make sure you email your documents first, then submit the registration request form. Requests to register without having submitted the two above documents will not receive a response and will be deleted. Once we receive your documents and your request form, we will review your information and contact you to complete your registration. Please do not submit your request if you are not ready to complete your registration and pay for your course.

During the in-person course, we will cover details about being an instructor, review applicable paperwork required for each class you teach, and outline the next steps to move forward as an instructor. This is also your chance to ask us questions.

Once you have completed steps 1 & 2, you will come to one of our scheduled BLS classes and be paired with an experienced instructor for your monitoring session. You will be given portions of the class to teach to real students and will be expected to teach based on what you’ve learned in the instructor courses. You are not expected to be an expert, but rather demonstrate knowledge of AHA course material and get practice with teaching and remediating students, filling out paperwork, how to issue certifications, etc. You have six (6) months to complete the monitoring session after completing one of our  in-person AHA Instructor Classes.
