The AHA PALS classes are for healthcare providers working in a pediatric critical care area.

  • The AHA PALS classes cover all the AHA PALS algorithms including recognition and management of respiratory emergencies, shock emergencies, cardiac emergencies, and cardiac arrest.
  • In addition, the AHA PALS classes cover airway management, systems of care, intraosseous access, immediate post-cardiac arrest care.

AHA PALS Renewal

In-person portion takes approx. 3-4 hours

  • AHA PALS pretest at home takes approximately 1 hour (but you can repeat it as many times you need to!)

Requirements/Notes About This Course:

  • Our PALS Provider course requires you to complete the “2020 AHA PALS Precourse Self-Assessment and Precourse Work” modules at home prior to the in-person course. This is an online (free) course which includes both the required PALS pre-course self-assessment as well as course videos with learning questions. Directions to access course are sent automatically after registration.

What you will do during the in-person course:

  • Review core concepts from modules completed at home and have a chance to ask any questions about course content
  • Complete skills practice and testing
  • Complete the PALS exam
  • Receive your AHA PALS certification at the end of class before you leave

 

Who can take this course:

  • Only students who have a current (not expired) AHA PALS certification are permitted to take this option (cards from other organizations such as Red Cross, ASHI, or online only organizations are not acceptable)

  • Approximate course length at home, prior to course: 1 hour
  • Approximate course length in-person: 3 hours

Requirements to attend this course:

  • You must have a CURRENT (cannot be expired) AHA PALS certification (cards from any other organization such as Red Cross, ASHI, or online courses are not acceptable). If you have questions about whether your certification is from AHA or still current, please email us a copy prior to registration and we will verify this information for you. You must upload your current certification during the registration process.
  • The “2020 AHA PALS Precourse Self-Assessment (this is also known as the “PALS pretest”) must be completed at home prior to the in-person portion of this course. This online self-assessment is free, and you can repeat it as many times as you need to until you achieve the passing score. Directions to access the self-assessment are sent automatically after registration.

What you will do during the in-person portion of this course:

  • Review core course concepts and have a chance to ask any questions about course content
  • Complete skills practice and testing
  • Complete the PALS exam
  • Receive your AHA PALS certification at the end of class before you leave

  • Approximate course length in-person: 30-45 minutes

  • Complete skills practice/testing
  • Receive your AHA PALS certification at the end of class before you leave

You must complete this course prior to registration and provide your completion certificate during registration.

Note: The new 2020 Heartcode courses feature adaptive learning technology. This means the course will vary for each person and adapts to your performance. In other words, if you know the material very well and answer questions correctly, your course will be shorter. If you do not know the material well and miss questions, your course will continue until you are proficient in the material. We do not recommend this option for first time students as they typically struggle to pass the skills portion.

NOTE: The last day to complete a skills session with a 2015 Heartcode certificate is January 31st, 2021. Only 2020 Heartcode certificates will be accepted for any skills session scheduled February 1st, 2021 or later.
